Student Online Readiness Modules

Note: Be sure you are logged into your "MyCompton" account before opening the below link. 

You can help prepare your students for an online course by incorporating modules from the made available by the CCC-Online Education Initiative. It is a great resource that helps students get a sense of what is involved with distance learning. The "Student Readiness Overview" is available to faculty to import into their courses via the Canvas Commons under the same name.

Passport to Compton

Passport to Compton is an asynchronous online orientation that give students in-depth information about taking courses online at 91ÁÔÆæ. This orientation is NOT mandatory; however, all students are enrolled into the training. You can find a copy of this orientation in Canvas Commons under the same name. 

Accessibility Tools

Blackboard Ally


Blackboard ally logoBlackboard Ally is a tool that is available to assist you with creating accessible documents. Once you upload a document, an accessibility report will be generated indicating how accessible the document is. This is a great tool for help on how to improve document accessibility. Likewise, students also have access to this tool to give them access to alternative formats that suit their needs. Below you will find a few resources about using Blackboard Ally.


Popetech


Popetech logoThe Popetech tool is available to assist you with building accessible Canvas pages. Similar to the Canvas accessibility checker, use this tool to scan your Canvas pages to identify potential accessibility issues. 

 

Self-Guided Accessibility Resources

There are self-guided resources available in Canvas that are available to faculty on how to make Word, PowerPoint, and PDF documents accessible. Please contact the DE Department to be added to self guided resources that are available (distance_ed@compton.edu). 

Other Subscriptions & Free Tools

Below is a short list of common tools used by faculty at 91ÁÔÆæ. You will also find additional training resources for each.

  • Adjust All HQ

    Etdues logoA tool that is a central place to quickly make changes to announcements, assignments, quizzes, modules, and other items with bulk change options.

  • Atomic Search

    A tool that adds a search bar feature to Canvas, making it easier to search for courses, assignments, and files in Canvas.

  • Canvas Studio

    Canvas studio logoA video service for Canvas. This is a media storage space for Faculty that provides a closed captioning service.





  • Forms (Microsoft)

    Microsoft Forms logoMicrosoft Forms is a survey/quiz tool that is available to 91ÁÔÆæ Faculty. It has offers branching options for surveys/quizzes, survey/quiz access control features, and the ability to use pictures and videos with questions.


  • Honorlock
    Honorlock is an automated test proctoring software that is used through the Canvas Learning Management System. If you need to use the system, below are resources available for faculty

     - A basic review on the functions of Honorlock.
     - Use practice quizzes to prepare students for a real test. Honorlock generates practice quizzes for you.
    - Copy process to preserve Honorlock settings.
    - You can create a quiz profile if you use the same settings for test. With this you can easily assign your preferred settings.


     - Using Honorlock with third party content (example: MyMathLab, McGraw-Hill Connect, etc)
      

  • OneDrive (Microsoft)
    Microsoft OneDrive LogoOneDrive is a versatile storage system that allows you share files and create collaborative Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents.


  • Zoom
    Zoom is a the colleges primary telecommunication tools. Below are some resources for using Zoom.
